Of course we have to tie in Earth Day and running some how…. Wouldn’t be a running blog if we didnt ;)  Off the top of our heads, we figured there are two ways you can celebrate Earth Day AND tie it into running….

  1. Walk or run to work or to do errands instead of driving
  2. Donate your old shoes for a really good cause

While on a search for shoe donation places, we came across a good one and want to share it with you.

Soles 4 Souls collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 13 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 7 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. Soles4Souls has been featured in Runner’s World, Ladies’ Home Journal, National Geographic’s Green Guide, and The New York Times. It has appeared on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, BBC, CNN and thousands of regional news outlets across North America. Soles4Souls is a 501(c)(3) recognized by the IRS and donating parties are eligible for tax advantages. Anyone can join the cause, and they  need your help.

Visit the Soles 4 Souls website and see if they have a drop box near you.  If not – check with your local running store to see if they are doing a shoe-recycle day.  Some will even give you a discount on your purchase or free gift for donating your unwanted shoes!!!

If your store is doing a shoe recycle day – share it with us!!
