The Non-Technical Way to Get Faster
M: 1m WU, 4×400 RP, 1CD………….. JUST KIDDING. Yeah – we won’t be doing any of that nonsense here. I see those letter/number/symbol combinations and can immediately feel myself getting tense. I can say I DO finally understand how to read the “lingo” and shorthand most people use to explain speedwork – but I still see it and it still frustrates me. So lets just be real here. You’ve run a 5k or 10k and now you wanna get a better time. We all do! It’s fun to shave minutes off our times and set new PRs. Especially when it …

#1 Outdoorsy Mom Blog!
Ok – so technically we are just in the category of “Top 25 Outdoorsy Mom Blogs” BUT we battled it out neck and neck with One Mom in Maine for about a week straight – literally cutting down to the final hours with only a hand full of votes separating us from 1st and 2nd place!!! She would be up 30 votes, then we would be up 30, she would be up 10 then we would be up 10….. Anytime she got a vote we would get one so the competition was FIERCE! But in the last hour with a …

New To Running? Start Here!
As women we have this ability to suck our friends into stuff they didn’t think they wanted to do…. whether it’s signing up as room mom with you – or brownie troop leader – or volunteering at the concession stand…. and of course there’s RUNNING! I bet as you are reading this you are thinking “yup, my friend sucked me into running” or “yup, I sucked a few of my friends into running already”. Sometimes it’s hard to remember where we started from and all the basics to tell new runners. We want to immediately jump into splits, speed drills, …

What IS a Virtual Race?????
I’ll admit – I had NO CLUE what a virtual race was until last year. I kept hearing about them – but just ignored it until someone asked if we (MRTT) was going to have one. Well – I figured it was time to learn what they were and how to run one ;) So here are the basics: What is a virtual race? A virtual race is a “race” that can be run anywhere you are – no specific starting time or starting place… Occasionally they have specific dates, or sometimes the dates will range a week or two …

Sigvaris Recovery Socks Review and Giveaway
If you’ve seen a few of my other posts on facebook and the blog you will know I’ve been obsessed with understanding compression – but scared to try it. Mostly because I didn’t understand it and for some reason it just went WAY over my head. I saw a friend’s post about SIGVARIS compression socks and after reading a little info I asked them if I could try a pair. When I picked them up I got a little background info and for some reason – having someone TELLING me made SO much more sense than anything I’ve ever read. …

Personal Savers Wearable Pepper Spray
After taking a self defense class back in 2008 – you will RARELY find me in public without my pepper spray. I literally get out of the car and put my finger on the trigger just WAITING for an attacker ;) My main reason for taking the unarmed self defense class was because I had just started running and I was paranoid about running alone. Although you could consider carrying pepper spray being “armed” that’s besides the point ;) I always try to stress to my girls safety while running and desperately try to convince them to carry pepper spray …

Another Mother Runner House Party
Heather and I were honored to be invited to a house party for Another Mother Runner’s own Dimity and Sarah (SBS). There were a lot of cool products to check out, great food and wine, and Dimity and SBS even did a few readings from the new book Train Like a Mother (review coming soon – but go ahead and buy it cause it’s just as good as the first!!!) I was totally stoked to win a certificate for a Champion sports bra! If you read my ‘favorite running gear’ post – you’ll know I always wear the 1050 – …

MMMBop and the “challenge”
Yup – as in the 1997 hit that NO ONE could resist grooving to. It reminds me of riding in my friend Joanne’s brand new black dodge neon with the windows down singing at the top of our lungs (though the only words we knew were “mmmbop” followed by a series of mismatched-mixture of dododowop and bededede dobops maybe a few yeah yeahs) Even if you hated it then – I think very few can hear it now without getting a little nostalgic for the late 90′s. I bet you are even singing it in your head as you read …

Light Up Shirt
Sit down. No seriously – you need to sit for this…. Who am I kidding?? I totally pulled a Tom Cruise on my sofa when I saw the mock up of our latest shirt (thanks Jade C. for showing us www.flashionstatement.com) that LIGHTS UP!!!!!!!!! Yes – the MRTT logo is now in LIGHTS on the worlds coolest shirt!!!! This is PERFECT for a night race or ‘themed’ race (Area 13.1, Tower of Terror 10 Miler, Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll….) The shirt is a women’s cut tshirt and the paper thin light up panel has velcro so it can be removed …

Challenge for a Change April
Sorry this is mid-month, lots of awesome things going on at MRTT Headquarters (new chapters, new website, new blog, new companies that want to give yall free stuff……) so we got a little distracted :) This month’s challenge is easy. Take the number 20 and subtract the number of miles you just ran. Then do that many pushups, crunches, and jump n’ jacks after! Here’s an example… If you run 13 miles: 20-13 =7 You will do 7 crunches, 7 pushups and 7 jump n’ jacks. Girlie pushups count ;) 2 miles? 20-2=18 18 pushups, 18 crunches, 18 jump n’ jacks …
